Editing

Ana Matisse (they/them) is an art historian and museum professional with 10 years of experience in arts writing and editing. In 2021, they began a collaboration with GEEX (the Glass Education Exchange) on the GEEX Writing Center. The Writing Center supports writing and scholarship for glass learners and educators by using a model similar to community writing centers. As a facilitator, Ana Matisse offers 40 minute 1:1 consultations on a variety of different types of arts writing, including artists statements, grant applications, bios, and exhibition texts.

They also offer more in-depth professional medium and heavy editing services to individual clients.

Research and Writing

As an art historian, Ana Matisse specializes in the visual and material culture of early modern northern and central Europe, with research interests in craft history, materiality, and labor practices. They focus on artisans making and working with glass within the Holy Roman Empire during the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.

They are currently a PhD student in Art History at Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University, and have presented their work at conferences across the United States with support from Temple University. They are a current Temple University Fellow, and their pre-dissertation research has been supported by Temple University and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin.

Before pursuing doctoral studies, from 2017 to 2023 Ana Matisse held a curatorial research position in The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s department of European Sculpture and Decorative Art, where they supported several exhibitions and gallery re-installations. They earned their MA in Decorative Arts, Design, and Material Culture from the Bard Graduate Center, New York, and their BA (Hons) in the History of Science and Technology at the University of Kings College, Halifax.
